Horizon Hobby Achieves Double Digit Revenue Lift Using Baynote

eTail 2008-- Baynote, Inc., a leader in intent-driven product and content recommendations for the business web, today announced Baynote CEO Jack Jia will be joined by Sebo Dapper of Horizon Hobby during eTail 2008's Search Day. Jia will describe generally how eCommerce customers are leveraging Baynote's product recommendation and social search technology, while Dapper will elaborate on how Horizon Hobby is driving incremental revenue with Baynote.

The second largest U.S. Hobby product distributor chose Baynote's intent-driven product recommendations because they believed that crowdsourcing recommendations could do a better job than manual merchandizing across its 70,000+ SKUs. Through an A/B split test, Baynote demonstrated a double digit revenue lift for Horizon Hobby.

"It is clear to us that recommendations powered by the collective experiences of our visitors drive revenue," said Sebo Dapper, director of Publications and Online Marketing for Horizon Hobby. "We are very much a 'long tail' site with a devoted community of hobbyists who clearly are the best source for recommendations -- our split testing has proven that."

Baynote's unique approach to product recommendations is to tap the implicit behaviors of site visitors and surface the natural associations they make among various products. This "wisdom of invisible crowds" allows eCommerce sites to rapidly begin making product recommendations because it does not require any profile data on individuals. Also, Baynote Recommendations automatically capture visitors from Google referrals based on the keywords they were searching to reduce visitor bounces. Finally, Baynote Search Recommendations integrates with on-site search to place crowdsourced products at the top of search results.
